During December 2025, the European Optical Society reflected, as usual, on the achievements of the outgoing year. The contributions made by researchers towards rapid progress in optics and photonics, through publishing papers in Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, were numerous and notable. During this period of reflection, the Society decided to formally recognise those that were truly driving advancements in the discipline through the introduction of a Best Papers Award.

We are delighted to announce the appointments of Muriel Botey and Azzedine Boudrioua by the EOS, as new Topical Editors of The Journal of the European Optical Society – Rapid Publications (JEOS-RP). They join the current team of Topical Editors and work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to the peer-review process of the articles submitted to JEOS-RP. Depending on the theme of the submitted article, the Editor-in-Chief selects the Topical Editor who will handle the peer-review process. As per the recommendations made by at least two reviewers, the Topical Editor proposes a decision to the Editor-in-Chief who retains the ultimate responsibility for accepting or rejecting the paper.
JEOS-RP goes from strength to strength in Impact Factor and Citescore rankings

The Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications (JEOS-RP) continues to prove itself a valued and trusted publication among the optics community, and the entire team were delighted to see this reflected once again in both the 2025 Journal Citation Reports™ (JCR), published recently by Clarivate Analytics, and Elsevier’s CiteScore rankings.
The 2024 Impact Factor for JEOS-RP is 3.2, a 68% increase from 2023. The CiteScore also increased significantly, by 9.1%, to 3.6 for 2024.

We are pleased to announce that the Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications (JEOS-RP) received an Impact Factor of 1.9 in the 2024 release of Journal Citation Reports™ (JCR), published recently by Clarivate Analytics. This new Impact Factor represents a 27% increase, up from 1.5 last year.

We are delighted to announce that the Belgium National Optical Society, PromOptica, an affiliated society under the European Optical Society (EOS), has officially become the latest cooperating society of the Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications (JEOS:RP). We extend a very warm welcome to Dr. Silvia Soria in her new role of co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications (JEOS-RP). She joins Sergei Popov, the longstanding Editor-in-Chief, who has led the journal with the support of Co-Editors Riad Haidar, Gerd Leuchs and Sergei Turitsyn as well as an expert, international Editorial Board.
